Gratitude and being thankful for the positives in your life has been proven to increase your happiness. When you start to count your blessings, you will discover that you have much to be thankful for and will actually begin to notice more of the positive things that happen in your life, instead of the negative. Don't wait for happiness to come to you, start today with the intentional activity of appreciating and recognizing your blessings. To practice the exercise, simply list three good things that happened to you that day. These blessings can be simple, like a good cup of coffee or someone saying a kind word. Try to practice this exercise every day, preferably in written form. Research shows that it is most effective when it becomes part of your daily routine. Ask yourself what three things happened in your day for which you feel blessed and grateful.
